A bold, warming variation on the classic whiskey sour, combining bourbon with fresh lemon and Northern Reach Maple Cinnamon Infused Maple Syrup. The maple provides a rich sweetness while the cinnamon infusion adds a lingering spice that complements the bourbon’s oak, vanilla, and caramel notes.
Ingredients
- 4 oz bourbon whiskey
- 1 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 2 oz Northern Reach Maple Cinnamon Infused Maple Syrup
- Ice
For Garnish
- Cinnamon stick
- Lemon or orange peel
- Optional thin apple slice
- Optional light dusting of ground cinnamon
Directions
Fill a cocktail shaker about halfway with ice.
Add the bourbon, fresh lemon juice, and Cinnamon Infused Maple Syrup.
Shake vigorously for 15–20 seconds, until the shaker is thoroughly chilled. This not only chills the cocktail but provides enough dilution to balance the bourbon and concentrated maple syrup.
Strain into a rocks glass over a large fresh ice cube. For a cleaner presentation, double-strain into a chilled coupe and serve straight up.
Express a strip of lemon or orange peel over the drink to release its citrus oils, then garnish with the peel and a cinnamon stick.
Optional Foamy Sour
For a more traditional, silky whiskey-sour presentation, add ¾ oz pasteurized egg white or ¾ oz aquafaba to the shaker.
Shake the ingredients without ice first for about 15 seconds, then add ice and shake vigorously again. Double-strain into the serving glass.
The result is a thick layer of foam that contrasts nicely with the cinnamon-maple character.
Flavor Profile
Bourbon • Maple • Cinnamon • Bright Citrus • Warming Spice
The first sip leads with bourbon and fresh lemon, followed by the fuller sweetness of pure maple syrup. Cinnamon emerges through the finish, complementing the whiskey’s oak and caramel character without requiring a separate cinnamon liqueur or flavored whiskey.
Serving Notes
Yield: 1 large cocktail
Glass: Rocks glass or coupe
Serving: Over fresh ice or straight up
Garnish: Cinnamon stick and citrus peel
For a more standard-strength single cocktail: The original 4-ounce bourbon pour makes this a particularly strong drink. For a more conventional whiskey sour, use 2 oz bourbon, ¾ oz lemon juice, and ¾–1 oz Cinnamon Infused Maple Syrup while keeping the same preparation.
